The Suncheek Conure is a vibrant and eye-catching mutation of the Green-Cheek Conure (Pyrrhura molinae), bred from a combination of the Pineapple and Lutino mutations. It’s one of the most brilliantly colored and sought-after variations, known for its golden-yellow body, red highlights, and soft temperament.
Size: Around 10 inches (25 cm) in length.
Coloration:
Body: Predominantly bright yellow, giving it a “sunlit” appearance—hence the name.
Head: Light cream to yellowish-white with hints of orange.
Cheeks: Pale yellow or light green.
Chest and Belly: Vibrant orange to red, sometimes blending into the yellow feathers.
Wings: Pale green with bright yellow highlights.
Tail Feathers: Typically bright red or orange-red, lighter than the normal dark maroon of standard Green-Cheeks.
Eyes: White eye-rings with reddish or ruby-colored irises.
Beak and Feet: Pink or horn-colored (a result of the Lutino influence).
Just like other Green-Cheek Conures, Suncheeks are:
Affectionate and enjoy being close to their humans.
Playful and curious, always exploring or engaging with toys.
Highly intelligent, making them good candidates for training and learning tricks.
Social birds that need daily interaction to stay happy.
Quieter than larger parrots, though still capable of chattering and occasional squawking.
Lifespan: 20–30 years with proper care.
Needs a balanced diet of high-quality pellets, fresh vegetables, fruits, and occasional treats.
Requires a stimulating environment with toys, climbing opportunities, and time outside the cage.
Thrives on daily human interaction and companionship.
The Suncheek Conure is not naturally found in the wild—it is a result of selective breeding in captivity and is considered one of the most visually stunning Green-Cheek Conure mutations.
