Spectacle Amazon

The Spectacled Amazon, also known as the Yellow-Faced Amazon, is a medium-sized Amazon parrot primarily found in countries like Colombia, Venezuela, and parts of Panama and Brazil. These birds are typically seen in tropical and subtropical forests, but are also adaptable to areas near human habitation.

Appearance:

• Size: Medium-sized, typically around 12–13 inches (30–33 cm) in length.

• Coloration:

  • Head: Bright yellow or golden-yellow around the face and the edges of the forehead, creating a spectacle-like appearance that gives the species its name.

  • Eyes: Surrounded by white eye-rings, which make their bright eyes stand out.

  • Body: Lush green, with darker shades on the wings and back and lighter green on the belly and underparts.

  • Tail: Green with red and blue highlights on the tail feathers, especially noticeable in flight.

  • Beak: Horn-colored or light gray, typical of Amazon parrots.

  • Feet: Grayish or dark-colored.

Personality:

• Intelligent and curious: Spectacled Amazons are known for their ability to learn tricks and mimic speech, making them highly trainable.

• Social and affectionate: These birds form strong bonds with their human caregivers and enjoy interacting with them. They are often described as loving but can sometimes be reserved with strangers.

• Playful: They are generally active and enjoy toys, climbing, and foraging. Their playful nature makes them an engaging companion.

• Loudness: Like most Amazon parrots, they can be noisy and may produce loud calls, particularly when they want attention or are excited.
